And with that will come higher taxes. And then some city further out in suburbia will come around with lower taxes and businesses will start to leave. And Mississauga will settle into middle age looking like Etobicoke or North York. The cycle of life will continue.

Don't forget to mention that the people of Milton, Rockwood and Guelph will then start to tell Mississauga to "get your own house in order before begging the province" and to "slash your gold-platted services subsidized by the rest of the province." I dare say its coming!

Peel/Mississauga are already cutting some services to pay for others. We're down to two garbage bags a week maximum (I think it starts the first week of October). I'm guessing the money saved from that will be redirected towards paying for the green bins since that's where the 1 bag of trash is supposed to be going. But I've never actually seen anyone with the current 3 bags already so I doubt it will have that big of an impact on anyone.

The move from 3 bags to 2 has little to do with cutting services and more to do with waste diversion away from trash collection and toward organic waste collection, which to me is fabulous. If people are too lazy to compost at home, the region will do it for us and it leads to the kind of compost you would buy at Home Depot to fertilize your lawn. It makes perfect sense. The only thing that should be going in the garbage should be actual garbage, i.e. stuff that can't be recycled or composted.

Have some bloody perspective will you - you're talking about someone who still, even while pushing through larger tax increases than His Blondness can win election without campaigning.
