Yes, the transfer does not need to occur on 9th and the US situation is probably one where VEREY seamless transition is needed. I would not be surprised if Trudeau stays for a couple of weeks, and then hands over to Carney who will call an immediate and as fast as possible election.

The suggestion, in short, roll back the IP protection U.S. companies have gained here since 2012.

I'm curious if he could be appointed to the Senate as an interim solution? This is purely a hypothetical as I know Canadians hate the Senate so they would never do that, but technically would that be possible?

EDIT: Never mind. I see you do not need to be an MP to become Prime Minister, and it has actually happened before, and not in ancient Canadian history.
John Turner became the PM with no seat in Parliament, ironically when Pierre Trudeau stepped down.

One does not need to be an MP to be PM, but one needs to be an MP to sit in the House (and all that goes with being a sitting member). He could run the place from the gallery. He could be appointed a Senator (by the GG on his own advice I guess) - that still doesn't get him a seat in the House.
 
I lost faith in Trudeau quite some time ago, but he unleashed a strong statement today that deeply resonated with me:

"So today the United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they’re talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying, murderous dictator.

Make that make sense."

Mark Carney attended St. Francis Xavier High School, before studying at Harvard University on a partial scholarship and financial aid.

Carney graduated from Harvard in 1988 with a bachelor's degree with high honours in economics; he took postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford at St Peter's College and Nuffield College, where he received master's and doctoral degrees in the same field in 1993 and 1995, respectively. During his Harvard years, he was backup goalie for the varsity ice hockey team. Carney was also co-captain of the Oxford University Ice Hockey Club alongside David Lametti.

Donald Trump on the other hand refuses, and will sue, to give out his marks at school and university.

There will be some immediately clamouring for him as a lobbyist and consultant, from banks, to law firms, to big industry trade groups.

As a PM for over nine years, he knows exactly how the government, and more importantly the civil service, works inside and out and who really makes the big decisions and how to navigate that system because he hired those people and he made that system.
His international government contact list is also worth its weight in Bitcoins.
