PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Liberal Housing Minister Sean Fraser, who I'm sure many of you are familiar with, is stepping down from cabinet and not running for re-election.

Writing on the wall, ship sinking, etc. He has a pretty big millstone around his neck, being one of those responsible for leading immigration into its current crisis.

Wouldn't be surprised if more hop off closer to the election.

Also of note- the $250 cheque has been apparently cancelled (hope no one spent it already lol) in the mini-budget arriving Monday.

Also- apparently from the CFIB- the GST holiday is technically 'optional'.

Any guesses on the size of the federal deficit to be announced tomorrow?

When Harper left in 2015 the federal deficit was $500 million ($636 million in 2024 dollars). How can Trudeau and Freeland justify a deficit that is almost ten times as large? If Trudeau needed a larger government he should have found the means to pay for it through either higher taxes or savings elsewhere. Both would be hard for Canadians to accept, but selling that to Canadians is Trudeau’s job.

If Bloomberg is correct on a potentially $60B deficit it's almost 100x. That's not even the worst part. All that spending and we still have no high speed rail, still have a housing crisis and a rusted out military. Prioritizing social spending over capital investment will have proven to be the Trudeau Liberals' absolute worst strategic mistake. Callous as this sounds, people would be a lot more willing to forgive higher child poverty if we had more housing and bullet trains.

The influence of the Wynne crew needs to be permanently exorcised from every Liberal Party in Canada. Their thinking is absolutely destructive and toxic for the Liberal brand.

Harper also governed during much better times. Pandemic's cost alot.
The 2007-2009 Great Recession wasn’t better times. The pandemic can legitimately explain the higher debt due to massive emergency expenses in 2019-2022, but not the 2024 deficit. Otherwise, at what point can Ottawa no longer use the pandemic as an excuse for spending over revenues? 2025, 2026?
My mistake, meant 100x

Trudeau ran up $100B in debt before the pandemic. And none of that solved the housing crisis, built HSR or recapitalized the military.

It's the same story as Wynne in Ontario because it's a lot of the same crew moving from Queen's Park to Ottawa.

We need a public call to account. What programs and departments were expanded since 2015? We know the civil service has dramatically increased, but what programs or departments? I suppose climate and environmental programs will be expensive.

Freeland gone, and burning the bridge behind her with a scathing resignation letter.

Does this government even make it to 2025?

Wow. This is giving flashbacks to the Chretien-Martin civil war.
