Does anyone know whether there's any place in Toronto or the GTA that makes Chicago-style deep dish pizza? Ever since Uno's closed many years ago, I've been pining for an occasional fix.

On a wider note, any recommendations on good pizza in Toronto and the GTA (not the big chain stores, and not the "gourmet" places)?

My favourite pizzas are at Mirto (corner of Toronto and Adelaide)......not a pizza joint per se but they have 3 or 4 on their menu.....definitely not the deep dish style pizza....more your thin crust/flat bread kinda pizza!

The closest I know of is Chicago Style Pizza in Hamilton. The pizza is exactly as advertised. Lots of toppings and a big layer of cheese and sauce on top in a deep crust. You can dine in or take out. They do pasta and saladas too, as well as pizza with a regular crust. I have been twice, when driving to/from Niagara and it was the right time of day. AFAIK They don't have their own website but a Google search will turn up lots of positive reviews.

I'm with you. I've found Toronto pizza to be pretty disappointing, save for Terroni. I come from the midwest and have really missed thicker crust and/or Chicago style pizza.

Chicago Pizza Shack ? http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/523250

Pizzaiolo is my favourite pizza. It's not Chicago style, but it's damn good!

I strongly second that! Great sauce, fresh ingredients and good selection. Even their vegan pizza with Yukon potatoes, olive oil and fresh rosemary and oregano is DELISH!

Chowhound has a thread on this subject

Mickey's Pizza on Lakeshore Drive in Mississauga gets rave reviews for their Chicago style Pizza. Judging from the review by "danionavenue" - a transplanted mid-westerner - Mickey's is the real deal for Chicago style pizza.

Another chowhound thread devoted to Mickey's Pizza http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/732381

Thanks Peepers! That DOES look like the real deal. I always forget about chowhound.

It looks like about a 10 minute walk from the Go Station. That's doable.

Can't let a pizza thread go by without mentioning Pizzeria Libretto on Ossington. It's thin crust, (like Terroni), not deep dish, but I think it's generally considered to be the best in the city

Opening a location on the Danforth as well....http://www.blogto.com/opening_soon/2011/01/pizzeria_libretto_to_open_danforth_location/

If you like Libretto, you have to check out QMP. $25 menu gets a app, any pizza, and a dessert (had homemade blood orange gelato which was amazing)
