Obama - first Peace Prize winner to accelerate war?

This situation really shows why nothing could have been done in Rwanda. Simply put, Western nations are not willing to risk even a few lives to preven the slaughter of hundreds of thousands or even millions of lives. The height of hypocrisy are those who advocate armed intervention in Sudan to protect Darfurians while advocating withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Those shouting to get the troops out have zero regard for the thousands or millions who would get slaughtered by the Taliban. Keep in mind the last time the Talibs took power they slaughtered 400 000 innoncents. Where were the moveon.org types back then? Oh I forgot, Afghanistan is not in Africa. So if a million die there it's no big deal.

It is impossible for any interest group to be focused on 100% of the world 100% of the time. The problem in Afghanistan is more complicated than a simple comparison to the African continent. Between the very corrupt war contractors that are stealing money to the lack of effectiveness the war appears to have had in many parts of Afghanistan to the consistent need to stay there if we want to do anything constructive (and pay for all those corrupt contracts to do so) is good enough reason to be opposed. Also, few of us know any actual numbers. Saying the Taliban killed 400,000 people is about as reliable as saying they killed 50,000.

I am under the impression - with what few facts we have - that a true slaughter isn't going on in Afghanistan and an outright slaughter has been occurring in parts of Africa.

While few of us have any real answers to these complex questions, calling names upon those who oppose action in Afghanistan and increasing some action on the African continent doesn't promote any dialogue on the issue.
