Yes people you did read right.

Oakville Transit is going to start regular route Sunday service on three routes starting soon. The current ZONE EXPRESS Dial A Ride service will still run on Sundays.

The new Sunday service will run every 60min.

As many of you probably know, Oakville does have a Dial A Ride Sunday service that was started not to long ago. With the addition of regular route service on some routes in Oakville, this will leave Pickering, Ajax, and Whitby as the last suburbs of Toronto without regular route Sunday service.

Here is the info from Oakville.

New Routes, Better Service - Coming Soon!

Sunday bus service will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the following routes:

Route 14 Lakeshore West
Route 19 River Oaks
Route 24 South Common Mall

Wow, two of the three routes run out of the city. People really must not like living there.

Re: Oakville transit finally starting regular route Sun Serv

The 14, I believe, is the busiest of the routes, followed by 24. It has little to do with them running out of Oakvill, more like they connect the main generators - 14 serves downtown Oakville, Hopedale, Bronte and connects with Burlington. Route 24 serves Sheridan College and some of the only highrises in Oakville (some of those weird brutalist towers you see along Trafalgar north of the QEW).

The 14 and 24 serve a special purpose - they are the links in the one-fare local transit trip from Markham to Hamilton. I did the trip once from Shoppers World Brampton to Barton and Kenilworth in Hamilton on one fare - you have to make sure you get the transfers and have a story ready, because technically, you are not allowed to go from Oakville to Hamilton through Burlington on one fare, according to Burlington Transit.

How long did it take you to do the trip?

Getting on a Burlington bus and a transfer is saying you are going to Brant St and Plains Rd to get to Hamilton downtown. Or going to Canada Center for Inland Water to get a HRS transferr and ride HRS.

You can do the same trip from Markham Rd and Highway 7 also and make sure you have water and food with you for the trip. It's one of those 3 hr trips.:rollin

Technically, you are not to travel from Markham to Hamilton on one fare and you must use GO to do this..

Oakville could have seen Sunday service if MT ran their #1 bus to Oakville GO station like Oakville has for years along with 7 day service. But Hazel doesn't want to do that.

It should happen under the GTTA

Wylie and I did Oakville to Hamilton via local transit for 50 cents(GO CO FARE) and had no problems. Each transit system gave us transfers with no problems. And when we got to Hamilton, the HSR gave us a transfer that is good for two hours to go anywhere :)

This is good news but I think route 24 should have 30 minute service on weekends since it is the busiest.
