Kids aren't going to die learning at home. People die from Covid every single day. Our Covid numbers falling are because schools are shutdown.
Actually, some kids might, but they're anomalous, so let's not bother.
It's not about kids dying....it's about the long-term negative consequences to these kids and to all of society that could potentially make this pandemic look like a joke.
And guess what! Only some people will die from viral infection, regardless of how many people are infected....a good proportion of whom were already on their last legs/breeaths before the pandemic.
But destroying the potential of an entire generation of people yet to live a productive and meaningful life?
That's criminal.
I know you don't care. You don't have kids.
I don't have kids either. I'm just willing to make sacrifices based on a determination of harm made using a moral standard that doesn't involve my self-interest.....which is probably something that our governments and people like you should be doing.
I know it's hard for some of us who are stuck in the depths of our flight-fight lizard brain stress response to think past tomorrow. I get it. I studied a bit of psychology. It's basic brain wiring. No one's fault.
But we don't need to take down civilisation because some people mistook a respiratory virus of middling danger for
28 Days Later. (By the way, if THAT ever comes to pass, I know which of you are not allowed anywhere near me because you'll just take me down with)
Let's review our panic pandemic panic response:
We panic. Closed everything. Ruined immeasurable small businesses. Threw a tonne of money around inefficiently. Kneecapped the generation that will have to deal with the debts and problems incurred. Called that reasonable.
"Big apes" is about right.
