All it takes is for Iran or China to admit they have a full blown disaster on their hands to start riots and overthrow the regime. Think back to the USSR.. they never told the public Chernobyl went boom because they knew it would weaken their power.

With the living conditions in the middle east, the wars etc I would not be surprised if we saw an increase in cases as illegal migration ramps up.

As much as I hate war in the middle east, it would be useful right now to help control the spread.

It is destabilized one way or another - I don't think an epidemic that you can see evidence of, but gets strenuously denied by the government is all that stabilizing - from both a politicial and an economic perspective. Wars and the attendant displacement of populations always helps, not hinder the spread of diseases - so I wouldn't count on that to do any wonders either.

Coronavirus: Iran's deaths at least 210, hospital sources say

At least 210 people in Iran have died as a result of the new coronavirus disease, sources in the country's health system have told BBC Persian.

Most of the victims are from the capital, Tehran, and the city of Qom, where cases of Covid-19 first emerged.

The figure is six times higher than the official death toll of 34 given by the health ministry earlier on Friday.

Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour insisted it was being transparent and accused the BBC of spreading lies.

It comes after a member of parliament for Qom accused the authorities of a cover-up and the US expressed concern that they may not be sharing information.

Staff and students at midtown ESL centre may have been exposed to individual with COVID-19 virus.

Staff and students at a midtown centre that provides language instruction to newcomers to Canada may have been exposed to someone with the COVID-19 virus.

Toronto Public Health sent out a letter to those enrolled at the ESL and LINC Centre located at 90 Eglinton Avenue East on Thursday, warning them that they “may have been exposed to someone who has the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID – 19).”

The letter goes on to say that anyone from the centre who develops systems prior to March 11 should follow self-isolation guidelines. It also says that anyone who does seek medical treatment should call their healthcare provider first, so they can take necessary precautions.

The centre is operated by the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

In St Mark’s Square last week, tables and chairs outside the famed Caffè Florian remained empty, with the few tourists spoiled for space as they posed for selfies. More white medical masks than carnival masks could be seen. Rows of empty gondolas seemed to rock impatiently.

After Venice cancelled most of its annual celebrations amid Italy’s attempts to contain Europe’s worst coronavirus outbreak, most visitors ran for the hills, leaving the lagoon city a virtual ghost town.

The Venetian tourism industry is still reeling after severe flooding in November left much of the city under water; now it has a very different kind of crisis to face. More than 800 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Italy, and 29 people have died.

Iran has raised the death toll from coronavirus cases to 54 as the number of confirmed infections jumped overnight by more than half to 978, amid continuing concerns that official figures still do not reflect the full scale of the outbreak there.

The health ministry spokesman, Kianoush Jahanpour, said new cases were confirmed in a number of cities, including Mashhad, home to Iran’s most important Shia shrine, which has remained open despite calls to close.

Coronavirus: South Korea sect leader to face homicide probe over deaths

The leader of a religious sect in South Korea could face a homicide investigation over some of the country's coronavirus deaths.

The city government of the capital Seoul has asked prosecutors to charge Lee Man-hee, the founder of the Shincheonji Church, and 11 others.

They are accused of hiding the names of some members as officials tried to track patients before the virus spread.
