New Newspaper Bins

Re: It's about the clutter.... Sheesh......

AP, you're getting close to getting banned again. Tone it down.

Looking to get sued yourself now? ;)

No new majors will be starting in canada anytime soon. The Globe has one the Newspaper war with the Post. The Star and Sun are content. No one in their right mind would think of going head to head with the big four.

As for the boxes. I am all for them in congested areas such as the DT core and along high density neighbourhoods. As for the lonely Star box at the corner of Sorauren and Galley? I say keep it.

The two boxes installed at the northeast corner of Bloor and Yonge are from JC Decaux, and are the boxes they build for Chicago, I believe.

One box contains the four paid newspapers, plus a small number of double and triple free paper bins, while the second box is all double and triple free paper bins. All bins are the same size, so it's the size of the publication that determines whether one, two, or three fit inside.

The non-window surfaces are entirely dimpled to make postering difficult.

The side facing the street has a windowed slot for an ad. It takes up the middle half of the face. Ads have not been placed in those slots at this point.

It wont be long before the brownshirts are goosestepping down Yonge!

Interesting article - thanks for posting.

I was just about to post pics of the newspaper boxes, City information signs. I have commentary and thoughts on street furniture and the CTA/TTC when I saw this. Here it is:

There's one of these at Bay and Bloor now... quite nice. Is the plan to have them everywhere in TO?

The one at Bay and Bloor has been there for a few weeks now.

Wow, what an impact. Sweet!

Re: It's about the clutter.... Sheesh......

That's definitely a big improvement. I didn't realize how beneficial it could be. If they're going to roll them out across the city, I'd like to see a bit more inspired design, though.

Yep, that's exactly the Chicago design. JCDecaux already has a head start on the competition for the 20 yr street furniture contract by having their work installed in our city.

I look forward to seeing other proposals, but this one is nice. Clean, classy and dimpled as to prevent/discourage postering.
