Spent time around this station and can confirm it felt significantly sketchier than anything I've ever experienced in Toronto. But talk about treating the symptom not the cause..
 
Hanging out in the rural areas east of Montreal and this caught my eye this morning, some views on transit from Montreal..

Article title is somewhat misleading. The article is discussing what was already discussed earlier about 3 of the commuter lines potentially being cut to save costs.

Might be creating a crisis to force the government's hand into giving some more cash to keep them open. The rest of that article was interesting, positing that ARTM should look for off peak/weekend/leisure traffic as GO (to some extent in Niagara) has

Good question. This was all at the end of August, and the media reports are now quite old.

Oh well, if Montreal starts cancelling public transit, then perhaps they can cancel the REM as well, and convert the tunnel for the VIA HFR. 🤣

We’ll only have to wait until the year 2216 (after the once-renewable lease of 99 years has expired) to ask for our tunnel back…
 
The whole situation with the tunnel is so dismal. You think if Quebec had held off on the REM maybe they could have looked at upgrading the Duex-Montagnes line to something like the electric Caltrain.

And don‘t even dare to suggest on the „Rail Fans Canada“ Discord server that we might sooner rather than later regret the decision to build a new rail transit system with zero regards of its effects on existing transportation systems and known infrastructure needs.

That there's a social network app (named after the best character from My Little Pony it would seem) with a "Rail Fans" group, sounds like a place to avoid I think.
 


The Anse-à-l’Orme and Deux-Montagnes branches now set to open fall of 2025.
To reach there, there will be weeks of full weekend closures and some early night closures for testing. Then, there will be a full 4-6 week closure in the summer for full system testing.

The work will require the network to close early in January and then be cut for entire weekends from February to April on the whole Brossard branch — which runs from Brossard to Central Station. Then in April, service will be interrupted on weekends and evenings starting at 9 p.m. Finally, for the last phase of testing, when trains are running from one end of the network to the end of each branch, all service for paying customers will halt for a period of four to six weeks. The timeline for that closure is the summer period, with the plan being to relaunch the network in the fall of 2025. The trains will be replaced with shuttle buses for the duration.

New cost is now 8.34 billion.
The REM’s new price tag is $8.34 billion, up 4.9 per cent from the last update, which CDPQ-Infra says is a respectable $125 million per kilometre and well within industry standards. By comparison, Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown light-rail project, which is still under construction, has an estimated price tag of $674 million per kilometre.
