Mississauga: Ninth Line Lands redevelopment

from the Ward 10 Councillor

Watermain construction on Ninth Line

The Region of Peel is carrying out two sewer projects along Ninth Line this year ahead of the widening of the roadway itself. The watermain installation project currently underway at Derry Road and Ninth Line involves tunnelling work across the watercourse on Derry Rd and is expected to be completed in the fall. The other more extensive project is the replacement of existing sanitary sewers for larger ones, along the east side of Ninth Line stretching from the Osprey Marsh down to Erin Centre Blvd. Likely starting in June, this project will involve some temporary road closures and detours where certain streets access Ninth Line. More information will be provided once the construction schedule is confirmed. Thank you for your patience as you navigate (or avoid) these construction zones. This will mark the beginning of years of construction along Ninth Line between Eglinton Ave and Derry Road to accommodate the development growth in the area and address the resulting traffic congestion.

The city of Mississauga has tendered the construction contract for widening Ninth Line between Eglinton and Derry.

See the details from the city's procurement website:
The required work includes but limited to: widen Ninth Line to four (4) general purpose lanes, two lanes in each direction, provide an urban road cross-section with boulevard cycle tracks and sidewalks on both sides of the road, provide a 5.0m raised centre median (if applicable) where there are no access impacts to existing side streets or residential properties, provide Accessibility for Ontarians and Disabilities (AODA) compliant intersections (e.g. mixed-use cross-rides for cyclists and pedestrians), pavement rehabilitation of existing Ninth Line corridor, new traffic signals are proposed at Tacc Drive, McDowell Drive, Beacham Street, and Starview Street, new storm sewer (upsizing) and Low Impact Development (LID) facilities, new culvert structure and widening of the Osprey Marsh culvert structure to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, utility relocations and full roadway illumination, enhanced landscaping features including additional tree plantings in the boulevard and median plantings such as low-lying shrubs, grasses and herbaceous plants (where applicable).

For clarification, the tender mentioned earlier in this thread was for the detailed design of the road widening. This latest one is for the actual construction.

Sounds like they will be building with high quality (for Ontario) cycle facilities. The only thing that would be even better to see is protected intersections and continuous sidewalks at unsignalized intersections.

I expect it will be similar to the boulevard cycle tracks on Argentia north of Tenth Line.

But they also mention tree planting in boulevards, which would be a great separation between cycle and road traffic.
