Because the SRT is now expected to continue until 2026 (or longer, let's face it) there needs to be consideration about the non-accessible stations. While some money has been thrown down the well in the shape of Presto, wifi and so on, making the stations AODA accessible by the deadline would be significantly expensive for stations which will be closed a handful of years at most after, and TTC is struggling to find enough cash for the remaining subway stations to be made accessible.
One would assume that if at least Ellesmere and Midland (10% of 2015 line ridership between them, no bus loops) were deleted that it would result in a significant staffing and utilities saving, even if mothballed, and some running time saving for the hardpressed SRT fleet as cars are shipped to New York State for refurbishment. McCowan (12%) would be a bigger bite and the cars turn back there anyway. Lawrence East would be a harder sell at 21% of line ridership.
So - close them, hope for a waiver, or something else?
