I took some photos today. I actually managed to wake up early enough to get front-lit pics of the buildings.

Excavation for Solstice start over a month ago. It will be 37 storeys tall, and the first 3 storeys will be for retail and office uses.

I'd rather have that big lot facing onto Burnhamthorpe than for that idiotic Metropolis project get built.

Thanks for the update. Nice photos but man I find the sterility of suburbia (wherever it may be) to be just depressing and soul-crushing.

Love the installation of the musk-oxen which, as we were all taught in Grade 6 geography, are native to Muskissauga.

It seems to disorganized their, like their is no real planning going on. And what is with those blank walls on Webb drive?

he blank wall abuts where constuction of the new Solstice development will be under way any day.

no real planning going on

Actually there is now. Part of the current planning is to try to undo some of the mistakes of the 1970s and 1980s, when the area was envisioned as not much more than a mall surrounded by parking lots, office buildings surrounded by parking lots, and vacant space awaiting more of the same. This philosophy has completely changed now, and a big part of what MCC is now about is the effort to "retrofit" it in conformity with newer ideas of urbanism. For all that it can admittedly be soul-crushing, I find it fascinating to watch.

A lot of those new condos in Mississauga look quite good. Those first two towers of Absolute are attrocious though... it is almost as if the design competition towers are an appology for the butt ugly first phases.

Absolute 1 and 2 aren't too bad, if you look at them from behind, and compare to Eden Park, or Ovation, maybe...

They should go to Port Credit for some ideas on what to do with the street level.
