Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

Weird because i'm frequently at this location and have never witnessed outright shoplifting. If it was as bad as you try to claim they wouldn't have installed self-checkouts, like how they haven't installed any at Sherbourne & Queen.

I've seen more police presence at the LCBO next door, frankly, but that's an aside to the confirmation bias you're trying to pass off as evidence.
My bias is the same as yours. We just have different opinions and experiences

Addicts will be addicts regardless. Making it “safer” for them only means enabling their use. Forced treatment or real penal consequences is the only solution.

Do you think the Mayor of Toronto has the power to confine people and force specific health care methodologies on them?
Seems like that would be something your beloved Ford would have the power to do, not a Mayor.

It's not deflection, it's his responsibility to ensure health care is provided.
That you only want to blame Chow shows that you just don't like Chow and are trying to blame her for your imagined issues. Just be upfront.
I voted for her. Not a fan of what’s been happening under her watch and decisions she’s made or avoided making. But yes, I do not like her and her policies and her cabinet at this point

She controls what the Toronto police can do

He’s trying to but some cities are making it hard for him to implement his plans

giving free drugs and letting druggies use drugs has worked so well in cities where it’s been happening
Well, shows just how uninformed you are about how safe injection sites operated. But hey, at least now that they are shut down, they are definitely not doing something that they've never done. I'm happy that ignorant people in charge of Ontario laws have appeased their ignorant electorate.

She controls what the Toronto police can do

The mayor DOES NOT control the police can and cannot do. The mayor can appoint some members of the Toronto Police Services Board (with the remaining appointed by the Province), approve through council the budget for the police services but she cannot direct operations.

I somehow doubt that someone who was complaining about gender neutral bathrooms was voting for Olivia Chow.
Mayor's do not have cabinets, maybe you should learn a bit more about civics in Canada before spouting off lies and misinformation.

The Toronto police can not force treatment on addicts. They can not indefinitely detain them either.
BOTH those things are a power of the province, not the city.

He’s trying to but some cities are making it hard for him to implement his plans
BS. Show the legislation where he's pushed forward forceable treatment.

Read my posts again more carefully. Not interested in debating this with you any further

If the mayor recommends they do something they want to do and it aligns with her policies, great for her, but the mayor and councillors cannot control the police
It increased by 14% in 2024 according to statistics Canada. Unlikely it’s gone down since given the state of the city and its lack of law enforcement.
The literal Toronto Police Service data shows that it is down by 9.8%. No other org would benefit from a more conservative mayor than TPS. Are you suggesting that they're lying?
