Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Miller support the extension to Vaughan as a way to get greater funding for TTC operations from the province?

I spent a couple of minutes googling but couldn't find any specific details on council votes. I would assume that Miller supported the Toronto section of the extension, however it was the province that pushed for the Vaughn section.

Very simple answer to that - the so called "conservatives" (populists might be a better term) has been given the levers and they chose the failure of a man to hold them. He'd rather be smoking crack and drinking up on work hours instead of working. For those preaching the responsibility of personal choice, I am curious as to why they didn't apply said principle to their choice of leaders.

I'd like to know who wouldn't want a Nenshi as our mayor and their reasons why.

My Calgarian brother would love if Nenshi moved to Toronto. He's a landlord, and has seen his property taxes rise much more than he would ever have expected, and he's pure Ford nation. Nenshi is a popular mayor, but not with the crusty old conservatives in Calgary. The wailing over the pedestrian bridge over the Bow was epic as well, despite the fact that Prince's Island, Memorial Drive and the whole inner city park are fabulous now.

Nenshi is a very good mayor, but he wouldn't appeal to Ford Nation at all.

At least someone was looking after those 37 square miles.

Ford/Tory don't seem to have any respect for it.

He is probably more like first term David Miller with cash to play with. Definitely NOT a FN type - who seem to gravitate towards the incompetent at every availability opportunity.

As to Tory, well, it's too early to tell but it will be interesting to see how he manage the councillors.

Appealing to Ford Nation rhetoric is antithetical to governing big cities (well). Beyond any realpolitik realities, I have no qualms over upsetting them.

Thanks for that. I usually can't stand Preville's writing (that Ford piece is risible), but he has an interesting theory about DMW as deputy mayor. And I had forgotten the Ford/DMW incident where DMW called him out on the drug use.

If Preville's right, though, DMW's pathetic play-acting and vindictive pettiness might increase. That's a horrifying thought.

A willingness to allow Nunziata time to rectify her previous partisanship? Shucks, he has Carroll in his back pocket if Nunziata fails...

David Shiner as P&G Chair? There are Filion and K W-T on that committee to keep an eye on him as well as three new councillors I think Tory has pegged for greater responsibilties...

Palacio as L&S Chair? If there is a committee that needs continuity it is L&S given the competing interests and minefields in attempting to balance those interests and with Matlow on that committee there won't be any carpet sweeping...

R Ford on Audit? Again with Matlow looking over his shoulder there could be fireworks...

Regarding Matlow, I'm not too surprised to see him on the periphery. Matlow prides himself on being independent-minded and would be unable to tow the Tory team's line without causing a kerfuffle.
