Manulife project rumour - Wet blanket?

Manulife went from 1/2 of AIG's size by market cap to 5 times as large in a very short time. This could be very big news for Manulife and hence the city.

Someone on another board hinted at this: what are the chances of Manulife staying in Toronto after acquiring AIG? Their North American operations are defacto ran out of Boston through John Hancock and their Canadian operations are mostly run out of Waterloo... Toronto just has the official HQ. I personally hope Manulife acquires CIBC since that would guarantee their head office staying here.

Interesting that the AIG Tower in Hong Kong has a jumbotron-like screen for a sign at the top of the building. If Manulife takes over AIG, the sign can be changed in the blink of an eye to show the Manulife logo (the third HK skyscraper to have a Manulife sign).

Given the rough global economy right now, perhaps more corporate skyscrapers will consider such a sign in case they ever get bought out by another company.

It's high time for Manulife to have a landmark downtown, sure their campus style group of buildings in Yorkville is nice, but I want a tower goddamn it!
