Has anyone else seen this film?

I saw it at the Bloor Cinema last night and I was blown away by the imagery. I knew it was going to be a good ride from the get-go, when they shoot a ten minute pan through a giant manufacturing plant in Guangdong.

The 3 Gorges construction footage is also something else.

Fantastic film. One of the most visual things I've ever witnessed. Highly recommended!

...and why is it not up for a Best Documentary Academy Award? It deserves to be...

Amazing film, and portrays the work of an amazing Canadian artist.

I am going to disagree. While I find Burtynsky's photos amazing, I found the film weak. It came off as a kind of blandish documentary on a photographer, rather than attempting to somehow translate the sublime power and desolate beauty of his photography into a cinematic form.

It hasn't been released in the United States, which is one of the criteria for Academy Award consideration.

Specifically, it must play in LA to be nominated.

Is that true for docs as well? I know that the rule for regular pics if that they have to run for a week in El Lay before December 31 to be eligible.

I saw this thread title and automatically thought about a rant I had on SSC the other day.

It was about Canberra.
