lost Toronto in colour--late 40's-early 70's

Good 70s pics...

Simon: good 70s era pics here - I noticed FCP under construction and
the CN version of the United Aircraft Turbo train before VIA began.

Did the Turbo ever do a run when it didn't break down?

Or hit a transport truck! LOL!!!

It is indeed a cool looking train, and even sexier yet in its CN livery. I didn't even know we had high-speed rail in Canada in our history and neither did my parents. Cool stuff. :)

Towards the end of its career, the Turbo actually had quite a good level of reliability--making its withdrawal a little odd.

Can anyone elaborate on why it was withdrawn from service and development so soon? The Turbo was a good looking rig.

It is very unfortunate trains 40 years ago look more modern than the ones we have today.

The new GO MPXpress locos are bringing modern back in to what rail transport should look like today.

Its early life had a series of mechanical problems, spurring quicker development of the LRC trains as a replacement. The eventual withdrawal was thanks to the introduction of the LRC, which promised more than it delivered.
