Add me to the list of those in favour of avoiding the Eurail Pass. If you have a fairly set itinerary in mind then booking directly through national rail services will easily result in savings worth half the price of a Eurail Pass. I just finished booking travel through Norway and the cost of booking through NSB (the Norwegian rail service) resulted in paying about 40% what it would cost me me buying an equivalent pass.
