Is digital cable now mandatory in Toronto?

I get really poor reception for both TV and radio at my place (Cityplace). I can barely pick up most radio stations on my clock radio, including CBC, and CBC TV is about the only channel I can pick up on my TV remotely clearly. Even then, it's pretty shaky and very difficult to read any writing. I find it baffling, especially since almost all the stations are broadcasting from a block away. Interestingly, I found that 102.1 comes in clearly, and they're one of the few stations that don't use the CN Tower.

Well, there's your answer. The signals are passing right over you because you're too close to the transmission tower.

Do you know that for sure? They always used to broadcast from the tower and even had a small studio up the tower at one point.
