I have long believed librarians should be armed

Not really. For one, I'm not even close to having pecs like that (working on it though), second, my hair is quite short, and third, my look is less Viking conqueror, more of a black turtleneck, academic-who's-screwing-cute-grad-student kinda thing.

Today is the second annual National Desk Set Day for news librarians. The women dress up like Katherine Hepburn, from the movie of the same name, in twinsets and pearls. In the movie, people go out for smart cocktails after work, and I understand that hard liquor is also an important after hours lubricant in National Desk Set Day.

Gee, how do they make liquor hard? Do they pour it in sno-kone trays and put it in the freezer?

Hard liquor in a sno-kone! How about that replacing a few hotdog stands in the summer?

Hard liquor - distilled rather than fermented and with a higher alcohol content. Dissolute newsroom reporters and their tough broads drank it, hence the Desk Set analogy.
