Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Its not even about straight.

Bypassing Main street bypasses the Brampton Mall, and downtown Brampton, literally the two places that people will most want to go.

Ridiculous.
What option is more likely, on-surface Main or underground Main? Or are both options not going to happen?

“I really want to go to the Brampton Mall”......said, literally, by no one ever!

Given how much has been spent on trying, unsuccessfully, on getting people to consider DT Brampton a “destination” not sure the other part of the statement is true either.

If it has to be built, I prefer the LRT go straight up Main Street....,but don’t see the need to make up stuff to support it.

They don't want to share Main Street in Brampton with light rail vehicles.

From Google. Guess they don't want to duplicate Toronto's Queen Street in Brampton. Personally, would like it.

Not to get too carried away here, but downtown Brampton is about 400m long. (Wellington Street to the GO station). Hurontario-Main is the best and most direct route for the LRT. Why not bury the line for this relatively small distance? Do something similar to what is being done in Port Credit on the south end of the LRT.

C'mon Brampton , you can afford it!

Metrolinx was seriously considering burying it. The problem wasn't the 400m going from Brampton GO to south of downtown though, it was the wealthy estate lots lining Main Street south of downtown. The opponents wanted it buried through there, which turned a short 500m tunnel into a 1.4km tunnel to the Brampton Mall.

I don't see what's wrong with a 1.7 km long tunnel with 3-4 underground stations other than cost.

This also could work:

I realize compared to Toronto these are not prime destinations, but compared to the options for the LRT route that Brampton is floating?

ahh yes, lets take the LRT to a field, and some car dealerships! Said no one ever.

The TRCA in 2016 voted against any LRT through the valleylands, which is this route specifically. So, bringing back consideration of this route would require, as best I can tell, Brampton Council to vote to add this to the terms of reference for the consultants for the EA, and the Province probably to override the TRCA.

That makes sense. I had suspicions that this may have been the case, but now I know it was.

Agreed. Brampton City Council, and presumably the people who elected these Councilors, believe these alternate routes will be best for the future of their community. Shuttling transit users around the downtown area is the idea. It is beyond crazy!

DRL.... That has been talked about for well over 20 years.
The DRL has been around 118+ year

Hurontario been around about 15 years, let alone a transit line from Kipling since 1980's.
