GTHA Regional Transit Amalgamation Discussion: Superlinx/Subway Upload

We've had tri-government support for the Scarborough Subway for years and still couldn't get it under construction.

Even if Pickering is promised a subway, what makes anyone think that it would be seriously attempted? All we are doing is wasting valuable time and effort, and paying some consultants fee.

He'll exprorpriate rail lines to widen the Gardiner!
For once we have the Feds completely onside for this. All the GTHA heavy rail lines are CTA jurisdiction. I'd love him to try, just to see him smacked down yet again. He's already got a litany of smackdowns waiting...

It won't be seriously attempted. Even if it were a good idea, and everyone were on board, the chances of it being anywhere near construction-ready within the next 3.5 years of the PC's term is zero.

I think Ford is going to get trumped by his own devices. He'll open the door to greater private participation, except they'll dictate the terms to him, not the other way around. Private enterprise isn't going to build a subway to Scarborough, let alone anywhere else where there's no business case.

But Big Money will make an offer on the Relief Line. Most likely a consortium of pension, massive transportation corp(s), and the Federal Infrastructure Bank. And it will be the Feds and Sensible Enterprise calling the shots. Think REM writ large. Perhaps even in conjunction with a VIA HFR consortium.

Who in their right business mind would deal with idiots, morons and thugs? If it is federally incorporated, it would come under the Transportation, Railway and other Acts. All federal. And the province can then lease pathings on it. If they behave themselves...

A more clear statement of the challenges Toronto’s faces in keeping the golden goose alive.

You know what would be helpful? If the province got off their ass and got RER and the DRL built, rather than wasting 5 years fiddling with the operational structure of our transit lines. We're going to waste 5 years on this nonsense, and surprise, your commute won't be any better.

Meanwhile investment will be driven away from Toronto because QP would rather score cheap political points than see Toronto be successful.

Anyways, idiots in Queen Park say we need subways to Pickering so here we go.

Another example of how the PC's and Lysyk are distorting the deficit https://www.thestar.com/politics/pr...off-on-fedelis-15-billion-deficit-figure.html

Every government does the thing where they spend the first year blaming the previous government for leaving the books in bad shape. Thing is, these guys aren't even good at it. They could have said pretty much any number between $5B and $11B and everyone paying attention knows there has been a dispute about the pension numbers and that they added in nearly $5B in stuff that wasn't actually approved, much less spent - but most people aren't paying attention and 15 is a nice round number, so they went with it.

The important thing is that they keep trotting it out as an excuse for any number of things for a while.

According to Yurek, seems that Toronto is pretty much useless for anything TTC-related...

Ontario Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek responds to council decision on the upload: "The City is not good at planning, building or maintaining subways. I am happy to hear that the City has agreed to meet with the Province to discuss and exchange information on the TTC subway"
