GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I wouldn't call it pandering if it makes sense. it would be the first real investment in regional rail in Canada in a long time, I hope it happens.

It would be a great election platform to get some votes in the KW region. If vote pandering worked in Scarborough then why not do it here too.

So I guess an infrastructure project that makes sense is vote pandering now? That DRL is just to siphon votes away from the Downtown core after all...

sarcasm aside, This is probably one of the few projects in the GGH that might actually have a noticeable impact on highway traffic, especially if it gets sped up to around 1:30 travel time total.

Funding could easily come from Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelphs portion of the transit taxes if they get implemented province wide.

of course haha, its all in the plan.

The plans for each line are:

Stouffville: Hourly all day 2 way GO to Mount Joy GO station

Richmond Hill: Hourly all day 2 way GO to Richmond Hill GO station

Barrie: Hourly all day 2 way GO to Green Lane GO station

Milton: Hourly all day 2 way Go to Meadowvale GO station

Kitchener: either 30 or 15 minute electrified all day 2 way GO to Mt Pleasant GO station, and now possibly hourly all day 2 way GO to Kitchener GO station

Lakeshore East & West: 15 minute electrified service on the entire line, including an extension to Hamilton.

Ironically, hourly service on the Milton line would actually be a decrease in service, as it's currently half-hourly most times of the day.

Further, they'd still have to run buses from Square One GO.

? there are currently no off peak trains on Milton. Peak service would remain well, well above hourly. The hourly figure is just for off peak. Buses from Square one would probably be eliminated, people will be able to either take the Transitway to Kipling or the Hurontario LRT to Cooksville GO.

Getting rid of buses at Square One is a bad idea. These buses are very heavily used. This service should become like the Hamilton GO bus which runs parallel to the trains all day including rush hour in both directions. It would probably make sense to reroute it via the transitway which means it would stop at Airport Corporate Centre and go via 427/Gardiner.

But the question is if it would be worth it keeping them once all the transit improvements are in place. The transit environment of Square One is going to be drastically different to the point of it being near unrecognisable.

The 21 is the busiest GO bus route from Union Station Bus Terminal though. Sure the traffic on the Gardiner is often bad, but the Bloor-Danforth subway and the 26 or 109 is really slow. I can't see ever getting rid of that unless there is direct rail service to Square One on a spur from the Milton line, and trains every 15 minutes.
