I just hope they put escalators into the stairwells. TTC elevators are too slow at the best of times, and definitely no bueno for a mad dash to the airport. Lots of people using that connection will have luggage.

It says it will cut down the walk from 8 minutes to 2 minutes, but a rough measure on google maps says the roundabout way is 375 metres and the direct way is 165 metres. So 44% as far, doesn't sound like it will cut the walk to a quarter of the time. But avoiding going outside is a major benefit a lot of the time, especially with luggage.

Where are you getting 165m? New faregates are on the east side as well. If someone needs to walk to streetcars / busses that's a different thing, but from platform to platform is minimal.

Don't forget to include things like having to walk to the western end of the platform if you're on the east most car (walking away from bloor go), climbing several sets of stairs, crossing the street, etc. There's a lot more to consider than just measuring topographical distances.

I believe GO/Metrolinx got spooked on escelators after the one incident at Union several years ago, along with high maintenance needs/costs made GO/Metrolinx phase out escalators and refrain from planning on any new ones.

As for measuring the distance along the platform, in case you are at the wrong end. That goes equally for any route. Just measure from the bottom of the stairs (or the top for GO/UPE).

No problem. It's absurdly stunning that we are in this spot, almost (over?) 50 years after the Ontario government started talking about putting in the connection and the connection was roughed into Crossways when it was built, given just how close the end of the subway platform is to the tracks! Of course by the time they finally committed to it, the old connection didn't meet accessibility standards ...

Maybe someone could help me out here, is this work related to one of the Kitchener line contracts? This is just at Rockwood (Fourth Line), but I'd imagine the storage track here wouldn't require a bore under the tracks..? Then again Metrolinx hasn't been transparent about what any of the contracts entail.

There was a culvert there wasn't there? I'd assume they are replacing it, perhaps so that it's wide enough for future tracks.

I'd assume it's cheaper to put the new pipe under all the tracks, rather than transitioning to traditional culvert underneath.
