Well ultimately the goal is to fully grade separate all of the RER GO lines, although there are certain key separations like Finch that are on the backburner due to them being lumped in with halted stations.
 
I'm surprised they are going ahead with a bridge over Corvette drive.

It's nothing more than a crossing in the middle of nowhere. Was handy when Midland Collegiate was in use but since then it's derelict.
 
For those who enjoy such details, deep in the technical reports on the ML website are the following details of the Scarborough Jct tunnel design - EDIT turns out these are for the diversion track, which is tighter than the end tunnel, hard to read on a tablet

Maximum curvature - 5 degrees, 343m radius,
Maximim gradient - 1.31%
40 mph max design speed

i don’t expect they will lubricate those curves as they are on a gradient, so one hopes there is no screeching as trains negotiate the tunnel.

There are a ton of at grade crossings remaining on the RER lines, even within the 15 minute stretches:

Stouffville will effectively be the only line without at grade crossings within the 15 minute frequency portion of the lines.

So that's a total of 32 at grade crossings remaining. Probably about 10 of them are likely to be eliminated through development, closures, or municipal related road works over the next 10 years or so, outside of the RER program. Which means about 20-25 will remain.

The PDP will be required to provide an organisation, comprising of resource, process and business systems (including potentially Digital Application Software) to support Metrolinx in ensuring that all Early Works Projects and OnCorr are compatible and properly integrated and to support Metrolinx in the management of subsequent risks, issues and opportunities across the GO Expansion Program.
The PDP is intended to work with the Metrolinx team to form and constitute an integrated unit intended to implement joint goals and objectives, underpinned by collaborative principles, values and behaviours, which integrated unit will report to Metrolinx Senior Management.
Metrolinx anticipates that the scope of the Services that may be set out in future procurement documents will take into account the Responses. In addition, the scope of Services may change in the procurement documents in accordance with the applicable rules governing amendments as set out in such documents.
It is anticipates that, on an annual basis, the PDP will assess and establish an estimate for the scope of work to be performed by PDP for the upcoming year and a cost estimate for such work.
The PDP scope is intended to provide oversight to ensure that all deliverables required and obligations to be fulfilled in order to undertake and complete the GO Expansion Program are met, including, but not limited to, program management, program controls, commercial, estimating, cost planning, procurement and supply chain management, claims management, risk management, pre-construction planning, access planning, engineering and design assurance and safety management.
It is anticipated that the PDP will operate at a program level and will not be required to provide resources to support the individual Early Works Projects and OnCorr, however, there may be specific functional, short-term support required on such individual projects for the overall success of the GO Expansion Program.


Metrolinx reserves the right to reject any or all Submissions at its sole discretion.

Not sure if this is the right thread. But has anyone ever thought of these modifications to the Barrie line.....

A direct corridor from Maple Station station up to Barrie. And not going through Newmarket/Aurora/Gwillimbury first? A track parallel to hwy 400? Would the investment cut down significantly on travel time and with a straighter track allow for faster speeds?

To my knowledge, such a project has never been serious contemplated.

In total track distance it would save you relatively little.........perhaps 10km?

By straightening the alignment from King City to Bradford, you would, however, eliminate many curves and doubtless be able to increase operating speeds.

Note that I didn't specify by-passing Bradford, because at that point, you're almost most certainly spending money after relatively little gain.

@reaperexpress, @crs1026 and @smallspy would be among those you could consult with in terms of a real benefit.

I don't see such a project coming to fruition; but we're it too, the straightest and cheapest alignment would take it over farmland, not the 400 alignment.

I lack the requisite skill/knowledge and probably patience to calculate the time savings for commuters from Bradford northwards; but my off-hand thought is that the cost would likely outweigh the time savings.

I have considered this idea in the past, and it would certainly look satisfying on the map. But like @Northern Light said, it is extremely unlikely that the cost could be justfied. The main reason is that Newmarket and Aurora themselves make up such a large portion of the line's ridership. If it were a line which served many intercity trains continuing onward to major cities beyond Barrie, then it might be worth having a dedicated intercity line bypassing the commuter centres. But it's not worth it just for Barrie, Collingwood and Orillia.

Unfortunately I don't have time at the moment to do any back-of-the envelope calculations to ballpark the time savings it would bring.

A much more practical improvement for Bradford, Barrie and points north would be to run limited-stops services on the line. Given that trains currently run the line in 1h40 making all station stops, express trains could easily run the line in less than 1h30. Once the line is double-tracked from Union to Aurora as planned, it will become possible to have multiple stopping patterns for the all-day service, with express trains from Barrie and local services from Aurora.

What's the role of the delivery partner? How does this relate to the OnCorr RFP that's already out?

I wish that was the case, but the Finch Avenue East crossing will remain at-grade due to the cancellation/deferment of the Finch-Kennedy GO Station. Until then, none of the RER lines within the 15 min portions will be fully grade-separated. The thing is, can Metrolinx grade-separate the intersection without the GO station?
