GO 2.0 Expansion Plan

Also do most trains along the Kitchener line need to stop at St. Clair West and King Liberty? Seems abusive.

I think the remenants of John Tory's Smart Track make sense for those stops.

I still say this is a way to campaign on buying the 407 for the next election. Two-year study to show that it'll take 30-years to do, including 30 years of major 401 traffic.

Suddenly $20B to buy back the 407 seems like a bargain, and can be done on a way shorter timeframe
In some ways the 407 is not the solution. It's good as a bypass but it doesn't run through the core of the city.

You could subsidize tolls for trucks to encourage them to bypass the city.

Dedicated paid car pool lanes in express.

Use that money to pay for BRT using bus lanes for GO transit.

You already have a bus network that runs from Oshawa to Finch or YM to Mississauga.

You just need dedicated bus lanes and have a stop at the 404/Don Mills station or Oriole. If you could have GO trains during the day terminate at Old Cummer you can get downtown in 30min from Oriole. That's better than the subway from York Mills which is full during rush hour.

That's much cheaper sand faster than buying the 407.

What lead to that item? What have councillors seen, that I don't think we've seen. (I can guess - an early draft of the 2051 RTP - so what else is in it).

The councillor advocating for this started talking about it after he saw a post on twitter about the evidence of the LM line that was left on the PC’s 2.0 map. The same post that was shared in this UT thread.

City council incorrectly believed this line was cut from the regional transportation plan, LM was just an idea removed from the 2.0 map before publication, I don’t think it was in the 2051 RTP.

I assume the recommendation the city is about to give Metrolinx to reinstate the Lakeshore-Midtown Line is going to cause confusion for everyone, because as far as I know Metrolinx wasn’t involved with what the government drew up for GO 2.0
