Generative AI (ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Google AI, etc.)

It freaks me out when I see the comments of what seems like obviously AI generated video full of people commenting suggesting it is real. It scares me that we are entering a post-truth world and it scared me that I will get that undiscerning in time.

The problem goes beyond the inability to discern AI content - but that trying to discern it imposes a cognitive load, and that it could be more attractive simply to accept it as real by default.

Kid #2 is at Seneca post-grad, where seemingly most classes are offered optionally online. Today the prof tells the class, go ahead and use Ai on your assignments, especially if English isn't your first language (which seems to apply to 2/3 of the class). Kid #2 is aghast, as they recently graduated from university where Ai for essays or presentations was absolutely prohibited, akin to plagiarism. I told Kid not to worry, that any ninny who's relied on Ai will be demonstrably flagged and culled during any job interview (at a good firm) for their lack of communication, language and technical abilities. Ai must be making HR and hiring managers life a nightmare as they can't easy discern who's used Ai to take their language and literacy to a level where they cannot otherwise operate.
