The photos sort of debunk the myth that everything in Dubai is designed and built to be a landmark and to outshine its neighbours.

Also, the day photo shows the extreme contrasts in building density in Dubai. Some parts of the city are super-dense like Hong Kong, while other parts see very low-density developments like Phoenix. I don't see any middle ground - Dubai isn't a friendly place for mid-rises.
 
There's no part of Dubai that really approximates Hong Kong for density. The strip in the photos is, almost the whole way along, mostly two buildings wide - one on either side of the expressway that is Sheik Zayed Road. The part of Dubai that is closer to Hong Kong in densities would be around the Dubai Marina, where the buildings are at least a few deep (and very tall). That isn't on these panos.
 
Yikes, that standard spec condo architecture that seems to dominate there looks like an army of buildings from the Niagara Hilton school of design. Talk about pretense.
