Downtown Parking Enforcement / Illegal Stopping

At Pearson Airport, it not humans who will physically give you a parking ticket for illegal parking.

Illegally parked for a pick up at Pearson? Get ready to pay a $75 'mobile payment notice'

The next time you face traffic congestion while picking up someone up at Toronto Pearson International Airport, don't be tempted to illegally park on the roadways leading up to the terminals.

Two cars equipped with cameras are now roaming around the terminals taking pictures of the license plates of vehicles illegally parked. Vehicle owners will be sent a $75 "mobile payment notice" in the mail.

"We are choosing to call it a mobile payment notice, as opposed to a fine or ticket because …a lot of people would associate the word ticket with something that is issued by a municipality. This is a private payment," said Ryan White, spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), which operates Pearson...

It's also not a parking ticket. It's like the "parking tickets" that most private parking lots give out - you don't have to pay it (but if you don't, the airport can tow away your car next time you do it).

TPS might not give a shit about running red lights, going the wrong-way on a one-way street, or ignoring the King Street Pilot signs.

But they hire special staff for parking enforcement. And they ARE ruthless. Bad parking along there is the one thing, that a few phone calls, might actually get traction on.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, and this is likely a worthless effort, but I wish the TPS would clear Richmond St. at Sherbourne.

Once in a while I see a TPS car or motorcycle ticketing cars outside the Tims there, but most days it's anarchy.

I now call TPS Parking Dispatch every time I see a car parked there, assuming I can safely stop.

What I would love to see in Toronto is wheel clamping.

Toronto police clamping a doughnut delivery vehicle? Can you imagine that meme?

I totally sympathize with you. I have similar strong feelings about the regular occurrence of cars or delivery trucks blocking Richmond St W in the stretch between John and Peter.

I am glad that you said you call TPS when you see this. Because just posting on UT, while it feels good to rant, does nothing to solve the problem. I’m not sure calling TPS solves the problem because I don’t know they take this seriously at all, but there is always a chance...

Have a parking complaint in Toronto? It can now be reported online
https://globalnews.ca/news/4631625/toronto-police-online-parking-complaints-website/
http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/core/immediate_parking_complaint.php

This works. On Monday I sent in a compliant of every weekday morning between 7 and 7:30am cars blocking the left curbside live lane on Richmond St. East between Parliament and Sherbourne. Yesterday the area supervisor from TPS parking enforcement emailed me saying they'd patrol the area. And this morning there was a Parking officer ticketing cars outside the Timmies and condo at Richmond and Sherbourne. The system works!

Now we just need to clamp and tow. Show no mercy TPS.

Nice. I have always been super skeptic all that TPS parking enforcement listens to such complaints. I will be sure to use this.

In 2014 parking revenue was about $105 million. There are over 7,000 people working for TPS. That's only about $15,000 per employee.

$105 million is about 10 percent of their $1-billion budget.
The Green P app is driving down revenue on on-street parking violations. So, if people are following the rules for on-street parking in legal places, then the focus of resources needs to move to parking/stopping violations in live lanes during rush hour and bicycle lanes.

And what we need is clamps and tows, not tickets. If the Timmies truck on Richmond at Shebourne is going to block the live lane, then he might as well block it all day with a clamp and a fine in the thousands.
