We are producing a new television show about the trials, tribulations and excitement around making a major life change and choosing to downsize your home and move to a smaller place.

Are you looking to simplify your life? Reduce the clutter and live smaller? Has the downturn in the economy got you thinking, we don’t need all this space? Are you moving from a large family home into smaller digs?

I am looking for a dynamic couple (aged – 40-60) whose are facing these issues, willing to talk about the economy, real estate and it’s affect on your life.

You need to have crossed the point of no return, which is, you have sold the house you currently live in or have purchased a new one and have urgent deadlines to meet.

We will consider applications from the Greater Toronto Area and will provide expert help and a financial incentive if you fit the bill.

Please email me at karenwalters@rtrmedia.com for more information (please put in the subject line “Downsizersâ€. Only applicants that are being considered will be contacted.

Yeah, but this option includes living with people you're not related to - something most older people aren't going to be comfortable with.

Downsizing in a recession is counter-productive. You actually want to move upscale, if you have job security. If you look at the drops in housing values, both in absolute and percentage terms, high-end homes drop the most, so you have the most to lose if you own an expensive home and you sell it at the bottom of the market cycle.

Buy low, sell high. Now is not the time to sell, but it is the time to buy. That is why renting out rooms could be an option to be considered before downsizing.
The problem of compatibility does, of course, have to be considered. Maybe a short term trial is best, at first.

great advice guys, buy into a dropping market, go deeper into debt at the beginning of a long deep recession/financial crisis.
