Energy firms hire a door to door marketing company (it goes by many names) to do these type of sales. I worked for them for a week in the late 90s. The sales pitch is still the same I see. Basically, we aren't "selling" anything, just asking you to "choose" a gas supplier, not leaving your current company.

It isn't crooked or anything, in fact I signed my parents up and they saved money, but if you don't understand anything about the industry you can easily be taken advantage of. That is why I quit.
