Dick's Sporting Goods

One of the big American sporting goods chains did come up to Canada in the late 1990s - I can't remember which one. They completely bungled the expansion and stand as one of the few examples of a big box American retail chain that failed in Canada.

Sport Authority

there was also the US SportMart. They had a few locations too in the GTA...Lawrence and Bathurst for one and I think they were at 403 and Dundas and maybe Heartland.

Sports Authority was at Hurontario and Eglinton, Centre Street across from the Promenade where Winners is now

I don't think the current Canadian Sportmart chain has any more connection to the U.S. banner. In the states, the Sportmart chain was absorbed by SportAuthority and the name was discontinued.

Yeah there was a Sportmart at Heartland before and it left and now there's a different SportMart there but it's got a different (i.e. cheap) logo.

The Dick's in Buffalo are pretty massive, I love browsing through them. Not bad prices either.

So what happened to their Canadian expansion?
