Everyone: I remember this article and pic-Jay Leno on NBCs Tonight Show used this article once during his HEADLINES monologue-it airs usually on Monday nights-I remember he made a remark about her smoking that got a laugh. It really isn't funny,though-smoking in the presence of small children is not smart-but I am of the age-mid 40s now-where the majority of parents smoked when we were young. I never got into the habit-but I am definitely anti-smoking now-due to the fact that smoking-and its related diseases-has literally killed half my family to some extent-including my father and I believe all my aunts and uncles on my father's side of my family.
It amazes me how a topic can change-that article posted by Prometheus was about just NIMBY opposition from road work. LI MIKE

Going back to the original topic of this thread, it would appear that maintenance issues are the primary suspect for the concerns surrounding the Q400. Here is a link to a recent story on the subject, should anyone be interested:

Looks like Tim's co-founder almost lost it in a crash of another Bombardier plane in Nova Scotia, with another case of failed undercarriage.

Is Goodyear making all of these? If so, Bombardier should get the hell away from them. I haven't heard of any such problems on the RJs, and the Ron Joyce plane was a Global Express (the other plane built at Downsview). The latter seemed to have been caused by a severe storm, though.

Concerning the Bombardier Global Express and the Q400's I believe the landing gear are provided by different suppliers. But the accident mentioned above was weather related, as you point out.
