Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Scarborough Centre subway terminus will work exactly same way as other TTC subway termini. The majority of riders will arrive on buses and transfer to the subway.

Some people here apparently live in a fantasy universe, and are telling us fairy tales that riders boarding at STC won't matter, because the area isn't designed correctly.

And all the while, the line degrades more and more. I can't wait till the finger pointing starts when the line must be shut down due to lack of maintenance.

I don't think anyone is arguing we don't need more heavy rail, the problem is that decades of heavy rail expansion into the suburbs has done nothing but cripple the system when there are critical needs consistently left unaddressed.

The SSE is a project that has seen a dramatic increase in cost (with more increases to come) with a dramatic decrease in it's scope. Why shouldn't people question such an investment in an area that does not at all present any sort of compelling business case for it's existence?

There's no denying that the city doesn't have its priorities straight, but one can't necessarily argue that there would be no capacity issues had the city not expanded into the suburbs further. Red flags should have been raised when the city was constantly filling T1s beyond crush load levels during rush hour, unfortunately, many just didn't care enough to think further ahead than ATC and New Rolling stock. Had they had the foresight to anticipate further growth, the DRL could have opened in 2021.

Wow, the station, signage and even Powerpoint slide design looks exactly like the TTC used recently under Byford.

Andy Byford was present at the WTC Cortlandt station opening. See link.

Talking about extensions, take a look at the 7 Line West Extension in New York City, at this link.

At least those three stations in the NYC extension has high density around them.
Hudson yards seems fairly reminiscent of Canary Wharf on the Jubilee line.

The Second Avenue subway is pretty much the Relief line of NYC. It's a line that really should have been built 60 years ago. There were plans for it to have 6 tracks.

Seems quite affordable for a one stop extension. ;)
Given the fact that it's Manhattan, 2.4 billion dollars for 1 mile is still pretty expensive for any extension.

And just like here in Toronto with the DRL the price tag is proving to be a hard pill to swallow for politicians in NY. last I checked the T is expected to cost something like $17 Billion but move something like 560,000 passengers per day. To say the least New Yorker's in the know on this type of stuff aren't holding their breath on it getting built anytime soon.

You can use the proper thread when picking on the Spadina extension...

Anything to defend your Respect for Scarborough subways.

Yes some TYSSE stations have poor ridership but don’t worry, your Respect subway will join that club.

Kind of an random question, but why is this subway extension called the "Scarborough Subway Extension", when it would make a lot more sense as the "Danforth Subway Extension"?

1) The existing subway diverts from Danforth east of Main Stn, and the current terminus at Kennedy & Eglinton is nowhere near Danforth Ave or Danforth Rd.

2) The extension will run for about 1 km under Eglinton, 1.8 km under Danforth Rd, and 2.2 km under McCowan. Neither street name would be descriptive in this case.

3) If the route changes (although that seems less and less likely as the time passes), the extension might not even touch Danforth at any point.

Title "Scarborough Subway Extension" is generic enough, it describes both the geography and the purpose of this project.
