Coxwell Sanitary Trunk Sewer Bypass

Now THIS is the sexy infrastructure I came to Urban Toronto looking for. Sewer bypasses! I mean, you can see pics of them on all the Toronto Instagram accounts, but I like to find the nitty gritty details too.

Ok sorry /s I couldnt resist.

I don't know about the /s part - it is pretty interesting on its' own right (and arguably more important than yet another mediocre, poorly executed condo project).

You could even call it a downtown relief line. People wake up, they relieve themselves, and it goes downtown.

Seems like this area will get more infrastructure installed after the Enbridge project last year.

Though it is really its own project; I thought I'd put this here; as there is a relationship.

Toronto Water is replacing the main outfall from the Ashbridges Bay Sewage Plant with a new, larger one that will go further out into the Lake.

I took some photos of the Platform today: (April 19, 2021)

Its under the Lake Bed, being done by a boring machine.

Oh I see now. Those pipes are to be the vertical risers connecting into the tunnel that release the effluent. Neat stuff.

From the (aptly named) Hatch site:

As the Globe and Mail continues its series of articles on the health of our ravines..........

The latest covers this project.

Currently non-paywalled.

As this seems to have become the default sewer thread (!) this may be of interest: http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2022.GL29.20

Are there any Infiltrators any more? Has anyone gone down into these u/c tunnels and taken some cool pics?

I know these types of things shouldn't be advocated *wink wink*. But I'm advocating it lol. They're deep, they're massive, once complete they'll be almost impossible to access. So let's get some people down there to get some pics.

The flooding of the Don river trench that's happening between the Riverside parks and Lake Shore Blvd will continue in the years to come during wet weather events like today until the first project phase here is completed, whenever that'll be.

Meantime, lots of poop in the river! 💩💩💩 The port lands flood protection valley-landforms won't do much to help with this situation upstream from that.
