??? What do you mean... Looks totally different

Weird that there's so much standing water on the site now. Does that have to do with the contaminated soil being disturbed?

Seems that they've chopped every tree on site. I get that they'd do that for trees growing in contaminated soil, but what was wrong with the trees along the lakeshore rd side of the site?

Also, was the existing pond on the site natural? Are there plans to keep it?

I was also wondering about all the standing water. It looks like they have excavated a good chunk of the land to a depth of about fifteen to twenty feet. The pond dates back to at least the site's refinery days and I think according to some of the renders I saw it will be included in the new plan. The trees at the front had to be taken out since the berm is being removed to level the land to "sidewalk level."

Looks like they are draining the lake or at least a part of it. Two photos: one from May 7th, the other May 13th.

^ wow. haven't seen a view like that before. and actually kind of shows that much of what they're proposing is quite out of scale compared to surrounding neigbourhood. I'm torn- I want something interesting there (more interesting than anything surrounding... something unique), but not something fugly that sticks out like a sore thumb.

What's the ugly part? We haven't seen any architecture yet.

If you're equating ugliness with scale, and hoping for single-detached homes for some reason, that ship sailed a while ago in most of the GTA.

hard to believe it's that polluted. Crazy stuff - I wonder what the remediation costs are for a land area this large.

I meant that the potential for an ugly screw up is huge. In the preliminary site plans they are proposing a couple of really tall buildings that will be seen for kilometres around. If designs are ugly, they will stick out in a BIG way, considering everything else around is low-rise.

And I wouldn't say that ship has totally sailed. In the immediate surrounding community (I would not count the GO station area as immediate surrounding community) there haven't been any towers built in a long time. Look in the photos. You can see a recent subdivision, and other new low-rise structures.

This concerns me greatly, as I live nearby. Isn't particulate matter being stirred up and becoming airborne? Are we breathing in the toxic waste from this site? And is some of it then dissolving in nearby Lake Ontario? The dump trucks don't get cleaned off either when they're leaving the site, and huge chunks of contaminated soil are falling off into the streets. Some of that no doubt washes into the storm sewers.

How deep is remediation legally required to go?

Also, I'm really ignorant about how it works- is it that they truck the contaminated soil away somewhere? And then replace it with clean fill? That would explain all the dump trucks I've been seeing leaving the area.
Or do they somehow do some clean up on the site?

Amazed at all the standing water still. Must be really polluted- the petroleum products in the soil repel the water
