If anyone here is a fan of the movie Blade Runner, Toronto is getting a rare opportunity to see this version on the big screen starting on Friday Nov. 9th.

Director Ridley Scott revisited this film finally assembling his true version (1992's "Director's Cut" version apparently had little involvement from him) and the film has been painstakingly restored for release in mid-December on DVD, HD-DVD and BluRay disc. The original negatives have been completely cleaned up, colour re-timed as per Ridley Scott's specifications, scenes trimmed and slightly altered, special effect shots have been fixed and the original sound stems have been remixed to bring the sound up to today's sonic standards. Warner Brothers tested this in NYC and LA where it did strong box office numbers and received strong acclaim so they are expanding the release through until Feb. 2008 in key markets. But here's the best part. The film will open at the Regent Theatre on Mt. Pleasant with 2K digital projection and Dolby Digital sound. For those unfamiliar with the Regent it's a cool old theatre which is used as a film sound mixing studio by day and movie theatre by night by the same group who saved the Royal Cinema on College West. The Regent has a big screen, great acoustics and a terrific sound system.

This is a rather unique movie event for Toronto and this is a film that really deserves to be seen on a big screen so I thought I'd pass it on to anyone who may be interested here.

A good movie was vastly improved with the dropping of the narration and the sappy ending. Glad to see this cult classic is going strong.

Thanks for the alert, I hope I can see this latest of the latest. Ridley and Tony have seen many of their movies reissued. I had foolishly thought they were involved in every aspect, but this tells me otherwise. I am especially interested in how a new Director's cut would rework the deleted scenes or the sequence of the storyline that is out of sync with what it should be. And what a venue in which to see a restored film on a big screen.

My friends and I hiked it up to the Regent Theatre tonight to see the new, true version of Ridley Scott's vision. Let me say if anyone "likes" or has an interest in this film, don't miss this event. It is an event. The atmosphere of seeing a movie in a great looking, comfortable, old neighbourhood movie theatre was such a cool treat. To see the movie projected in perfect focus from one edge of the big screen to the other, through a sound system that sent chills down my spine made for one of the great movie going experiences I've had yet this decade. The Scotia Bank IMAX is impressive to be sure, and the sound system there rocks but there is something smoother and more defined about the sound in this theatre. I can't recommend this movie event highly enough. My 3 friends and I couldn't shut up for 2 hours after it was over as we were all so taken by the whole experience.
For the record, it's a 35MM print that is being shown, not 2K digital projection as I was lead to believe.

Six huge thumbs up. Going back next week to do it again.

Now I can say 'been there, done that'! They pushed a great deal of light through that film to get the image on the screen, and it was spectacular. I highly recommend the experience of being in this theatre as well.

Glad you made it Zephyr. I'm doing it one more time on Thursday which will hold me over until the 5-disc BluRay HD box set comes out on Dec. 18th with the 4 different versions intact :)

Oh I gotta see this- one of my favorites and perhaps the best sci fi movie ever made. I must be the only person that also liked the original release with the happy ending and narration. Oh well!

When is this running through? I want to watch it.. I just need to convince my girlfriend that this is something we should go see!

It is playing until Thursday at 7 & 9:20pm but I'm sure it will play one more week. Check NOW magazine on Thursday to see if it is playing another week. I'm going to see it one more time on Thurs. night just in case it doesn't play another week.
