I know this project has been discussed in one thread or another here over the years, but couldn't find a dedicated one.
This is the project to renew/naturalize the rather moribund Black Creek as it passes through the evolving Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
It merits a thread as work may actually begin as soon as next year (2023)
First, a quick bit of background; this is the state of Black Creek in the area today:
Its in this ditch along the east side of Jane Street, south of Highway 7:
Aerial view:
Existing Flood risk:
What's proposed is a mixture of naturalization, an expanded creek channel and enlarged culverts to mitigate flood risks, and public realm improvements (trails, seating, recreational amenities etc.) so that people can enjoy a creek-side walk.

This short report to the March 2nd meeting of the Regional Watershed Alliance is what brought this project back to my attention:
With that, a quick look at what's set to unfold:
Note that the above is/was a very high-level concept from 2014; what actually happens will vary some, both to the detailed EA (which happened after this render) but also subsequent detailed design (now getting under way)
This is the most recent 'render'; again, from prior to detailed design work:
One final image for now, a bit more of a technical cross-section:
Hopefully they're will be much more to report on this in the months and years ahead.

Black Creek Renewal Municipal Class EA
The City of Vaughan previously completed the Black Creek Storm Water Optimization Study Master Plan Class Environmental Assessment (EA). The study identified a range of alternative solutions to reduce flooding and flood damages, improve water quality and limit stream bank erosion in Black Creek.
