The guy was working away with a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench, and the camera was moving all over the place for a good hour. I thought he might be re-positioning the camera, but it ended up at its original position again.

its possible, though you'd likely need to buy an expensive telephoto lens and also a tripod to eliminate any shakiness...
