Funny, I didn't think reading posts you weren't interested in was mandatory.

Barrie's in the "Greater Golden Horseshoe", and these developments are all urban.

Tee hee.....hopefully he never notices that thread discussing Ottawa's LRT plans in the transportation section

I don't ever got to Barrie but notice that the PDF is from 2007 and features projects that were to be finished or started in 2007 (and some proposed then) antone know how they did relative to this presentation?

There are a number of new approved projects in Barrie,
Saw this thread here and i hope u all dont mind but im going to start updating it, as the projects become larger.

The number one development in the downtown core is the one i just posted. The pit has been dug and should start pouring anytime

The status of this project is in the planning process.
This project will consist of 5 towers ranging in height to 25 stories. Which is a huge step from the 15s condos.

Agreed; Barrie will be jumping a whole couple of decades ahead with it, and while it's outside of town, Friday Harbour is quite cool too.

Any news on the development taking place around the new Allandale Waterfront Go station? Last I heard (late 2011) there was a debate on the scale of density but mix-use was proposed. I'm hopeful that it becomes a catalyst of growth for the southend of Barrie's urban growth area.

It calls itself the City of Barrie, but without higher density it will continue to be just a sprawling car-oriented suburb.

An answer regarding the Allandale lands the city is still facing legal problems for puling out from correct group of companies.
Just read in the newspaper that another 17 storey condo was just approved for 145 Bradford street, this will also include live work units..

Two ways.

One: link to an existing image (IE. Flickr) via the picture frame, pressing the URL tab and unclicking the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally".

Two: uploading your own image into your album in your UT profile. More complicated, may have to try several times. Once successful, you use the URL setting for your uploaded picture.

30 August 2014: Collier Centre Barrie update

My second time in downtown Barrie--ugh it's quite awful although Toronto could learn from how they do sidewalk cafes/pub patios. There's some interesting mid-century modern apartment buildings and bungalows but overall, ugh! It's gonna take 50 years or more to feel urban there--so many parking lots to fill.

^ Filling parking lots doesn't make a place more urban. There's a difference between urbanizing and intensifying. For example, Humber Bay is intensifying, but it isn't becoming more urban. The same goes for MCC and Markham.

Urbanity isn't the goal of every area. Many people like the suburban lifestyle.
