Toronto 50 Wilson Heights Boulevard | 56.55m | 17s | Greenwin/Tridel/CreateTO | Kirkor

I'm glad this is being built. However, the amount of condos being built next to highways such as the 401/Allen here is confusing. How did fumes based developments in Toronto become this mainstream?
This is where the largest lots are for easy assembly. Same with developments going next to rail lines.

These are directly next to a subway line. Highway or not this is exactly where we should intensify.
Building near transit good thing to see. But directly next to two major highways the exact opposite https://www.canada.ca/en/health-can...outdoor-pollution-health/traffic-related.html.

“Traffic is a major source of air pollution especially in urban areas. Traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) is a mixture of pollutants from:

  • vehicle exhaust
  • tire and brake wear
  • other particles such as road dust
  • evaporation of fuels from engine components
Pollutants in TRAP include:

  • black carbon (BC)
  • carbon monoxide (CO)
  • nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
  • particulate matter (PM)
  • ultrafine particles (UFP)
  • polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • benzene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Health effects of traffic-related air pollution

We evaluated the link between TRAP exposure and:

  • asthma, allergies and lung function
  • childhood leukemia, adult lung cancer and adult breast cancer
We concluded that TRAP exposure:

  • causes lung cancer in adults
  • causes development and worsening of asthma symptoms in children
  • likely reduces lung function
  • likely causes childhood leukemia
  • may cause allergies to worsen
  • may cause breast cancer in adults
  • may cause worsening of asthma symptoms in adults“
Fumes based developments are proven to cause severe health issues, and I’m as YIMBY as they come. Some mitigation strategies are needed. Perhaps even serious evaluation of the actual risks for this project.

Ah, so you make money on this.
Nah I’m just messing with you, unless someone does want to pay me to do a study in which case I would say I’m serious. TRAP is also more important then the shadow studies I see all the time.

Based off the revision up to 17 stories, is it safe to say that prior 16 storey cap is now gone?

Today may be one of my FINAL multi-modal visits to this “big dumb parking lot” before it closes forever in 3-weeks…

In an almost “too perfect” example of City Hall public communications failures — the ONLY visible signage announcing that the Parking Lot is CLOSING on Monday, November 18th are tiny little 8 x 10 signs that are stuck to things…

City needs to have GIANT billboard-sized signs at the entrances and the exits of the parking lot.

There is one facing the road along wilson as well. The neighbourhood had quite a fit when the last lot closed and pretended like no one ever informed them it was closing. So... here were are.
I have asked the City to roll-in a couple of the BIG DIGITAL signs that they use to announce Road closures, ASAP.

Pasternak is claiming that this project is finally going ahead because he “threw in the towel” for protecting our critical commuter parking.

Someone at the condos across the street is complaining about this development.

Councillor has moved on to another presentation. People are still grumbling about parking and traffic. Talking about turning the new park at the Nordic condos into a parking lot.

Sidewalk closure planned for the North side of Wilson under the Allen Expressway, which I assume means some of the station entrances will be CLOSED too.
