46th Canadian General Election

I wonder how Trudeau sleeps at night these days. Ever more MP's in his own party are telling him he needs to go, and he's just sticking his head in the sand. Show some dignity.
The manner of his departure is probably still being debated internally.

Something spicy could still happen, like Trudeau proroguing parliament and subsequently resigning, resulting in a Liberal leadership race in the spring prior to parliament reconvening and resulting in a no-confidence vote at the throne speech, thus a fall election.

Could be an alternative to a Spring election with the current polling numbers... Personally, not my desired result, as I very much want the federal election to take place before Doug Ford has the chance to call a provincial election in Ontario. Also not sure how to feel about being effectively leaderless for most of 2025 given the situation with our southern neighbour.

Remember, pretty much all Canadian media (with the exception of the CBC) is owned by right wing companies, so remember that all the PP is the best™ rhetoric is just that. Still, I find JT's clinging to the leadership bizarre. Is it hubris or part of a greater plan? (I think hubris)

I want JT to go as I find him smarmy and devoid of substance, but I'm no fan of PP either...

I don't think there is a scenario that Doug loses given the current competition of Doug Lite, and the Rae Days party.

If the LPC can be rid of JT before the election we may also be able to avoid PP.
That is incredibly unlikely given how deep of a hole the LPC is in. I can't imagine any unicorn leader that would be able to close that spread. It might hold the CPC to a minority though.

A CPC minority is the best we can hope for it seems. It's a sad place to be, but what joy to have P.P. accountable for a change .

We’ve seen an unusually high number of minority governments this century, following the Liberal majority in November 2000, with five out of the seven federal elections since then resulting in minority outcomes.

Jun 2004, Liberal minority
Jan 2006, Conservative minority
Oct 2008, Conservative minority
May 2011, Conservative majority
Oct 2015, Liberal majority
Oct 2019, Liberal minority
Sept 2021, Liberal minority

We clearly live in a politically divided country. If Pollievre scores a minority I don’t think he’ll last for long.

Eglinton-Lawrence Liberal MP and former cabinet minister Marco Mendicino announced he's not running for re-election.

There is no honourable reason for him to call a snap, early election. What does he need justification from the electorate for, when he has a majority government and can do whatever his gang wants. Peterson called an early election and was turfed by the unamused. There's always hope in Mudville.

The Star is reporting Mark Carney has done a 180 turn and is now actively calling Liberal MPs to seek support for a Liberal leadership race.

Bad idea.

He's a stellar candidate for the leadership who would ruin his reputation with a blowout loss.
