What's so great about Spire?

What's so great about Spire? I hear people on here going on and on about how cool Spire is but I can see that glass box rising right outside my window and it looks just like any other boaring glass box to me. I don't see anything original or special about this building.

Re: What's so great about Spire?

No, I'm not a fan of pre-cast but I am a fan of creativity and originality and Spire has neither. It's boaring!!! Why is it Europe can build amazing, modern architecture with quality materials and we can't? I hate pre-cast but this city seems to only have 2 choices, pre-cast or glass. (that's because both are cheap and Torontonians don't demand better)

Torontonians don't demand better because they don't know better.

If developers built what Torontonians prefered, we'd see a city full of French Quarter and 500 Queens Quay W. type buildings.

Indeed. Sure spire isnt anything original or groudbreaking and that i totally agree but its just nice to see something which isn't some piece of crap pre-cast or some french quarter kind of crap being put up.

I would love to see projects in this city follow whats going on in europe. I think we are lacking when it comes to glazing technology and original designs.

I can't help think of that fantastic building in Barcelona with those colours. I would love to see more details on our projects. Europeans just seem to go to the extra level when it comes to detail.

If developers didn't build what their customers prefered, nothing would be built at all.

Here here! My sentiments precisely! Blame the planning department and the socialist mayor for not making good planning and design a priority on the agenda. The ease with which developers can steam-roll such uninspiring and creativity lacking projects is alarming. Developers will build the cheapest project they are permitted to b/c buyers do not know any better- and they clearly have done so throughout this condo boom. Only a few firms (context for example) are really putting design ahead of a mass produced volume. Their building that backs onto High Park has got to be one of the nicest projects in the city bar none.

Thank you, the list on page 1 has been updated to reflect this.
