Interesting. That single-storey commercial plaza is quickly becoming an anachronism on that site as new much larger buildings have been built nearby.

So, when are we building the west end of the Relief Line?

Finally. That strip plaza is terribly suburban, aside from the lack of parking in the front. Now if only the strip of horrible shops on the north west corner could be redeveloped, as well as the awful Ghetto Burger across the street...

No love lost on the plaza, though I hope Island Foods finds a new location. People need their roti.

I don't understand what's "horrible" about the NW corner, though. A couple of greengrocers, a bank, a launderette, some medical, some restaurants, a couple of bars. It's down-at-heel but it's a variety of uses, it's small business, it serves the local community.

You mean remove everything that makes this a functioning, pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood?

Remove and replace with something better, that is even more pedestrian friendly and beautifies the neighbourhood.

And there's nothing pedestrian friendly about that horrible McDick's.

Hmm. That's more than just 1182 King West.

The McDonald's is on the southwest corner, not the northwest. That rendering does show the southwest side of King going too though…

Correct title should be 1182/1221 King Street West

Land economics prevent anything of the scale that's proposed from being as pedestrian-friendly as what's currently there. The cadence of the individual buildings will be lost when the parcels are combined and the retail offerings which replace them will almost surely not have the same narrow dimensions that exist today.

But yeah, 'ghetto' and all...
