2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

The reason they started paying the extra $325 per month after being there for nearly five years is the question. Were they concerned with the optics? It also does not negate the PoV that they took advantage of a lower cost rental accommodation. One that many needy families would (and should) have been able to take advantage of.

No, Glen, they started paying because they were politicians, and made the (mistaken) attempt to get dicks like yourself to leave them alone by overpaying, since they could. It would be like a right-wing councillor who's a millionaire donating his salary, when he doesn't have to, in order to make a political point on lower costs, even thought it's completely irrelevant to any tax increases needed to fund billion-dollar subway boondoggles he endorsed. Except, you know, with good intentions.

Edmund,

Hopefully the line will add to density along its route and therefore grow the number of the people that it services in addition to adding property tax revenue to the city. Certainly the current underground subway routes reflect that assumption.

Oh, FFS. Have you ever been to Calgary? Edmonton? Vancouver? An LRT does the same thing, at HALF the cost. What is WRONG with you people who call themselves fiscal conservatives but CAN'T ADD???

The SRT will NOT be replaced with shuttle buses on the subway plan. The TTC, as part of the subway budget, will be doing some life extension work on the SRT (To the tune of around $150 millions worth) to ensure it lasts until 2023. no sources, but it was a major reason a lot of councillors voted for the subway rather than the LRT and I did see it on a budget somewhere at one point.

Pennachetti's presentation for 2013 CC39.5 and attachment backgrounder 62393.pdf mentions 170M (2010$)for maintainence, life extension and demolition of the SRT....converting that to 2023 $ you are looking at close to 1/4 Billion to keep the line going....Is that waste or what?

So the SRT is the real gravy train.

Subways, subways, subways.

Of course it's not all Ford's fault, but if you can find me one person who's done more to waste time & money here I'd be interested to see that name.

A far bigger issue would be an agenda set by her that would see skyrocketing tax rates on property, user fees, and union friendly deals sure to bankrupt this city.

I don't have much concern for this however because once the public at large gets wind of her obvious agenda she will be no more a serious contender than Ford.

What evidence do you have that this would in fact be her agenda? And if it's such a vote-loser, is it not naïve of her to pursue it, overtly or covertly?

Her lifelong history of being a proud NDP member. She won't be able to help herself. She's not a great speaker and the press will expose her agenda quite clearly as the campaign wears on.

Something specific that she has done or proposed in the past? Not just by association? Anything?

As the lemur has noted, if Chow's "agenda" is so terrible - and if, as you postulate, "the public" will figure it out and Chow's support will melt away - why is she pursuing it, and why are you so worried about it?

Is it possible that you just don't like paying taxes?
