2014 Municipal Election: Toronto Mayoral Race

lol...Karen's campaign is looking sadder each day. If she was hoping to use this campaign as a means of boosting her name recognition in order to seriously run in 2018, I don't think it's going very well.
However, if Soknacki is using this campaign as a means of boosting his name recognition, AND Toronto implements a ranked-ballot system for the 2018 election, he could end up being mayor one day.

I could say the same thing about Ford's campaign. I find it completely laughable that a few months ago, many here on UT (including myself) were afraid that he'd be a serious threat. Just a few weeks into the campaign it has become abundantly clear that his joke of a campaign has zero chance of victory. I wouldn't be surprised if he walks away with only 15% of the vote come October.

His website was ridiculous when it launched, full of typos. Although it seems to have been fixed. Look at his "Ford Nation" youtube clips, the background behind him is all wrinkled and badly lit. It looks like a super low cost or bad production.

Anyways based on the book Crazy Town, his campaign in 2010 got a lot of help from people who knew what they were doing. As far as I know, all those people have now given up on him and some have switched to Tory's campaign. It wouldn't be surprising if his campaign was ran really badly.

Both Tory & Chow seem to have really good campaigns so far, they probably have all the experienced campaign organizers and everything.

Having said that, I wouldn't count him out yet. He has extremely loyal supporters, I have witness people give him the benefit of the doubt on everything. I've heard people rant about how he's the best mayor ever. I've seen "Welcome to Ford Nation" signs from the highway.

That Ford Nation show has probably done more to hurt the mayor than what any of his political opponents could dream of.

I'm encouraged by the large anti-Ford sentiment that we're seeing from commenters on a certain conservative leaning newspaper. Reading the comments, it's interesting to see how even the leftie "socialist" Olivia Chow may have more support from these people than Ford does. Ford will always have his 15% of dedicated supporters, but outside of that demographic I can't see him picking up many votes

It might be nice to have someone who is familiar with how the place really works.

I'd be curious to see what favours she's collected from Trudeau or Harper that she could collect on. Despite being there for 7 years, I'm not sure she's done a great deal, nor do I think her NDP allegiance will pull too many strings for Toronto.

No syllable ends in a consonant (except for "n") in Japanese.

There is also no "k" in a native Italian name.

And Stintz had even less to do with it. The blanket dismissal of a candidate purely because she was not on Toronto council is plain silly, and merely one of many, many ham-fisted remarks her campaign has made. I hope Stintz and her campaign get an earful from voters because of such antics.

That's two impressively dumb statements in one post. Congrats!

1. She was the Official Opposition's critic on Transport issues. She would have had, arguably, the most influence of any non-Cabinet Minister on transportation issues.

2. How could you possibly care to know what 'favours' she might get as Mayor from the other two political parties, but totally neglect to even mention what she might get from her own party if she helped deliver Toronto? Your bias against the Official Opposition is showing.

They're definitely involved in politics out of proportion to their share of the population. Unfortunately Toronto's Italian Canadian candidates have been pretty lousy: Nunziata, Rossi and Pantalone.

But then, there's *Frances* Nunziata, the last pre-amalgamation Mayor of York. (And yeah, I know about her now--but back then, she had whistle-blower cred after early 90s scandal all but wiped out York Council at the ballot box)
