On the weekend, I went to check out the 1000 Islands area and particularly, Boldt Castle. It's located on the US side of the St. Lawrence so that meant going through customs on the American side first and then the Canadian.

Overall, the area is very nice with great views all around. The castle itself needs a major overhaul because of the neglect over the many years. However, the first floor was restored beautifully and I can only imagine how nice the other areas were.

I still have yet to go to the 1000 Islands, but it does look beautiful.

Do you know what the purpose of the power house was?

Very great photos! Thanks for posting them :)

I'm may be heading there for a few days next week. My only concern is that I'll be travelling with my 2 kids, ages 9 and 4. Are there activities there for kids that young? I imagine there are boat rides etc, but does anyone know if there is a family resort nearby?

Thanks.

Shane.

1000 Islands/Boldt Castle,NY-another interesting part of NYS...

Smuncky: Good pics of the Thousand Islands and Boldt Castle-that interior and dome glass looked excellent!
Is that international Bridge in pic#1 walkoverable?
I remember reading that the Rift Bridge across the border there is one of the smallest on the US-Canada Border am I right?
The NYS North Country-centered on St.Lawrence County-is a part of my home state I know precious little about-and I recall it is a neat place to visit!
