Chronomaut, you're right. The white bricks are making it look worse than it should be. Once it's finished maybe they won't be as noticeable as maybe the glass balconies draw your attention upwards 🤷🏻‍♂️ Chris R, I'm totally into brutalism and other "oddball to appreciate" architecture. It's the...

Not a fan of that brick colour. It's giving me 70s/80s vibes And not in a retro cool way. Like low-rise medical office building-ish (not Medical Arts! hah)

Vranich: I do things the Balkan Way and then accept any fines from the city if I get caught 😆

I'll save my judgement for when the scaffolding is off and the project is completed

Thanks Chris. I got confused. In my mind there was another parcel in this block, and that 213 King St West just touched McMaster and was not adjacent to Marquee as well. D'oh! 🤦‍♂️😅

Is there still plans to build something next to Marquee? Can someone link me to that project info? Hamilton has so many developments in the pipeline I find it hard to keep up 😅

    St. Catharines SKYE | ?m | 49s | Atria | A& Architects

If they're going to demo the Walker YMCA they have an opportunity to completely reconfigure the site plan into a much better "urban village" I don't have high hopes though lol

    St. Catharines SKYE | ?m | 49s | Atria | A& Architects

This site is in a sprawl area of a 60+ year old indoor shopping centre (Fairview Mall was built in 1961 IIRC), and 90s big box stores, out parcels. Almost anything is an improvement 😅

    St. Catharines SKYE | ?m | 49s | Atria | A& Architects

That's kinda sad. This YMCA was a big deal when it opened, with a huge donation from the Walker family (they've since donated huge sums to Brock University and the newer St. Catharines hospital cancer clinic). It had a really nice pool, multiple gyms, second floor walking track. Lots of space...

Welland was rejected as a filming location for The Walking Dead TV series because it was deemed to be too hyper realistic for a zombie apocalypse 😂

Sounds like a great restaurant! Next time on Augusta during a nice day check out the Plank rooftop bar. Take the elevator at the back of the Laundry Rooms mini lobby. That's another "this doesn't feel like Hamilton experience" but not pretentious at all.

Oh 🤣 I had no idea. I stand corrected.

I agree, seeing hand laid bricks just looks and feels higher quality, more substantial. When me and my friend were walking by the twin tower podium of King William Urban rentals he commented on the materials looked to be high quality and built to last, compared to other new buildings we walked...

Was in Hamilton the other day. Snapped this quick pic. It's such a massive building. Will be great to see all 635 units filled!

    Hamilton King William Urban Rentals | 97.56m | 30s | LIUNA | Graziani + Corazza

Stec, this is awful to read about your new home. You and your partner have to complain to the building super until these awful tenants are dealt with and "shape up or ship out" of the building. Make friends with your neighbours. The good tenants need to band together and voice your concerns...

    Hamilton King William Urban Rentals | 97.56m | 30s | LIUNA | Graziani + Corazza

Did a day trip to Hamilton recently with my best buddy from Buffalo. Just used my phone camera (3 yr old midrange Motorola android phone) but here's a few shots from the rooftop bar, 7th floor of the Laundry Rooms boutique hotel on Augusta St. My friend said "Hey that sign posted says...

This! And yeah most won't remember this once the issues are worked out and more rental supply comes online

I don't know for Hamilton, but $115k is like one year salary for ~40% of Niagara Regional Police's workforce. 😆 Whereas you get this art installation for many decades
