GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

the price was 100-150M just 3 years a ago. certainly a victim of the recent cost expansion hitting all forms of transit in Canada. I agree that a basic bus service is the best way to begin. Someone I know at ML has already flagged the route for better bus service so we should see some updates...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Usually when I hear rail proposals I say: 1) rail banking is key (buy the ROW) 2) Run a basic bus service In this case there is also high support for this project in Cambridge (which usually is very NIMBY) The selecton of Pinebush as a terminus may seem odd but, there are many significant high...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

There does seem to be some signaling glitches with the ATP - we should be able to hit 70 on the Waterloo Spur. Places with an up arrow or down arrow seem to be the places where the ATP kicks in. I was talking to a signaling engineer (who did not work on this project) and they think that the ATP...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Even if you include the, layover time (6-7 min) depending on direction, the overall story does not change much For 10 min peak frequency: we need 2*(43 m+6m)/10m = 9.8 train (rounded to 10 ) [prev 8.6 trains (rounded to 9 )] For 7.5 min peak frequency: we need 2*(43 m+6m)/7.5m = 13.0666666667...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

It takes 43 minutes to go from Conestoga to Fairway station [google maps]. There are 15 trains available. if we take 3 trains for spares (roughly 20% spare ratio), roughly speaking: For 10 min peak frequency: we need 2*(43 m)/10m = 8.6 trains (rounded to 9 trains) For 7.5 min peak frequency...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

Hi All, I started the 'Ontarian Transit Plan Database' (found here). I will upload the Bolton and Cambridge GO justification reports on that drive. I've decided to expanded the scope to included all transit projects in Ontario - There are a lot of ION and Otrain documents that got taken down...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

Definitely- I do think there is a real value in archiving these studies, even beyond the scope of Metrolinx . I would say that there are a lot of project documents outside of the GTA in Ottawa, London or Waterloo which ought to be saved. You cant find many of the ION engineering documents online...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

Definitely, there are a lot of "serious" proposals. As you said they are poorly documented in the public domain. For example, Some of the older Cambridge GO studies are located here: https://www.cambridge.ca/en/learn-about/cambridge-on-the-go.aspx and the old Bolton docs are here...

    GO Transit: Corridor Studies

Inspired by @Willybru21 's maps of yesteryear GO's proposals, and @dowlingm's post earlier today, I have created a thread to discuss GO Projects which have formally been studied or are listed in long term Metrolinx planning documents but haven't been funded. Examples of these projects include...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Hi, this is a timeline of Ontarian tram and trolleybus systems using data from this source. Its neat to see the transition from horse tramways to electric tramways and then to trolleybuses. I am working on a project to create an interactive map of Ontarian tramways by year

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Not to mention the funded Hamilton LRT, the proposed Ottawa stage 3 LRT, and the Gatineau and Quebec city trams. All of which are at least in the 4 billion range. Just last week Quebec paused work on their tramway after costs were projected to reach $8 billion ! ION's cost of $868 million/19 km...
